LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Josh Crone (Cambridge, Ont.) and Mike Dube (Brockville, Ont.) of the Bishop's Gaiters have been named major award winners by the Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association. Crone was named the league's Most Valuable Player and Most Outstanding Attackman, while Dube was honoured as the league's Most Outstanding Graduating Player.
This is the second straight year, and the third in the last five years , that a Gaiter has won the league's top honour, following Dube's win in 2010, and Jimmy Southall in 2007.Crone finished second in the CUFLA East Division with 46 points (29G, 17A) in nine games, and was the MVP of the Baggataway Cup tournament. Dube finished 2011 with 47 points, leading the East Division scoring race, including 23 goals.
Greg Harnett (Caledon, Ont.), a 2011 draftee of the NLL's Calgary Roughnecks, was awarded an "Honourable Mention" in the Most Outstanding Defensive Player category.
The Gaiters finished the season with a 13-1 overall record, and won their first Baggataway Cup championship six weeks ago with an 11-6 win over Brock in the championship game in London, Ont.
