SHERBROOKE, Que. – A pair of tries by Noah Harrison (Toronto, Ont.) led the Bishop's Gaiters to a 20-12 win over the Sherbrooke Vert & Or in Quebec conference men's rugby action on Sunday evening in Sherbrooke. With the win, the Gaiters clinched second place in the Quebec university rugby union, and will host the Concordia Stingers in a league semi-final on Friday night.
The Gaiters led 15-0 at halftime before Sherbrooke mounted a second-half comeback. However, the Gaiters held off the late charge by the hosts and kept the Vert & Or from taking any points from the contest.
Nic Johnson (Toronto, Ont.) also scored a try for the Gaiters, while a convert and a penalty goal by Nicolas Alexandre (Bordeaux, France) rounded out the scoring.
Simon Maignan and Emile Picard scored tries for Sherbrooke, with Yannick Mailhot scoring a conversion.
Rookie lock Max Grouette (Surrey, B.C.) was named the Gaiters' man of the match, both for his work in the scrums and for pushing the Gaiters' attack forward.
With the win, the Gaiters finish the regular season with a 3-2-1 record and 14 points, good for second place in the Quebec university rugby union. The Gaiters will host third-place Concordia (1-4-1, 7 points) on Friday night at Coulter Field. Kickoff is set for 8:15 p.m. Sherbrooke (1-5-0, 5 pts) will visit McGill (6-0-0, 28 pts) in the other league semi-final, also on Friday night.
