LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop’s Gaiters golf team has finished in sixth place at the QSSF Golf Championship, which concluded on Wednesday afternoon at Laval-sur-le-Lac, Que. This is the best performance for the Gaiters since a fourth-place finish in 2006.
The Gaiters shot a 324 aggregate on Wednesday, giving them a final seven-round score of 2,278. The Gaiters finished 11 shots behind fifth-place Concordia, and three shots ahead of ETS, who were seventh. Laval won the 12-team competition with a total score of 2,081, an incredible 74 strokes ahead of second place Montreal (2,155). Laval’s 285 on Wednesday was also the low score of the day.
Dane Fitzpatrick (Cornwall, Ont.) led the Gaiters, as he shot 79 on the final day to finish tied for 13th place overall with a five-round total of 392. Olivier Audette-Génier (Longueil, Que.) also shot 79 on Wednesday, and he finished two shots back at 394, good for a tie for 15th. James Laing (Halifax, N.S.) also cracked the top 25, as his final round 80 gave him a five-round total of 401, good for 22nd. Scott Latter (Toronto, Ont.) shot 86 on the final day, and finished in a tie for 36th place at 316.
Mathieu Gingras of Laval won the individual championship with a final score of 357, four strokes ahead of teammate Charles Côté.
“The team played really well,” said Gaiters’ Head Coach Andy Ochman. “For a school of our size to place three in the Top 25 is very good.”
