MONTREAL, Que. – A double-double by Catherine Bélanger-Pâquet (Quebec City, Que.) led the Bishop's Gaiters to a 73-57 victory over the UQAM Citadins in Quebec university women's basketball league play tonight at the UQAM sports centre. Bélanger-Pâquet scored 13 points and grabbed ten rebounds as she picked up her second double-double of the season. With the win, the Gaiters snapped their two-game losing streak, and picked up their first win of 2012.

The Gaiters got off to a strong start, using a 20-3 run over the first and second quarters to lead by as many as 15 points in the first half. UQAM responded with a 15-5 run of their own, to cut the halftime margin to 33-28. Bishop's pulled away in the third quarter, as a 12-3 run over 2:00, keyed by five straight points from rookie forward Véronique Fortin Tremblay (Chicoutimi, Que.), put the Gaiters firmly in the driver's seat as they cruised to the win.

For Bishop's (8-12, 8-11 CIS, 3-4 Quebec) Jessy Roy (Val d'Or, Que.) led all scorers with 18 points, while Fortin-Tremblay finished with 17. The rookie centre also grabbed six rebounds and blocked a season-high three shots. Roy led the Gaiters with five assists.

UQAM had three players in double figures, led by Emie Simard's 12 points. Camille Michaud led the Citadins on the boards, with ten rebounds, as UQAM outrebounded Bishop's 46-44.

The Gaiters shot 38% from the field, and were 40% (8-for-25) from three-point range. UQAM hit 32% of their shots, and were only 1-for-8 from beyond the arc. The Gaiters committed 18 turnovers, while UQAM had 26 miscues.

With the win, the Gaiters move into a tie for third place with the Laval Rouge et Or, as both teams sport identical 3-4 league records. UQAM remains in fifth place, at 2-7.

The Gaiters have a short turnaround, as they return home on Saturday, January 21, to host the Rouge et Or. Tip-off is set for the special start time of 2 p.m.
