Gaiters lacrosse edges McGill in overtime thriller

LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Mike Dube (Brockville, Ont.) scored four goals and James Malloy (Uxbridge, Ont.), tallied the game-winner with 3:15 remaining in overtime as Bishop’s rallied from a four-goal deficit at halftime to upset division-leading McGill, 11-10, in Canadian University Field Lacrosse Association action at Molson Stadium in Montreal, Thursday.

Ryan Besse scored a hat-trick in a losing cause for McGill, which was beaten for the first time this season and fell to 7-1.

The Gaiters trailed 4-3 after the opening quarter, 7-3 at the half and 9-5 after three quarters but outscored McGill 5-1 in the final stanza.

The second-place Gaiters, who improved to 4-1, also had a pair of goals from Toronto native Gareth Gibson (Toronto, Ont.), along with singles from Andrew MacKay (Cornwall, Ont.), and Andre Laleune (Halifax, N.S.), Alex Millin (Port Moody, B.C.) and Jesse Gattellaro (Aurora, Ont.).

Other McGill marksmen included Alex Rohrbach, who scored twice, Jishan Sharples, Ross Burst, John Miller, Nolan Prinzen and Leland de Langley.

The Gaiters have a pair of exhibition games this weekend, on Saturday at St. Michael's (Vt.) and Sunday at St. Lawrence (N.Y.). They return to league play on October 14, when they host Carleton. The Redmen return to action on Oct. 16, when the Queen’s Gaels make the road trip to Montreal.
