MONTREAL – The old adage that "bad things come in threes" was never more evident for the Bishop's Gaiters men's basketball team than on Friday night. The UQAM Citadins hit a trio of three-point shots in the last two minutes to edge the Gaiters, 82-79, in a hard-fought Quebec university men's basketball league matchup at the UQAM sports centre.

With the Gaiters holding a 75-70 lead, Richard Addai drained a pair of nearly-identical shots from the outside the top of the key with 2:01 and 1:34 to go, putting UQAM up 76-75. After a pair of free-throws by Sean Monplaisir (Toronto, Ont.) had put Bishop's back in front, Vincent Lanctot-Fortier provided the dagger at 0:58 with his triple, putting UQAM back in front 79-77 and giving them the lead for good. The three-pointers were a climax to a fourth quarter that featured eight lead changes and two ties

The loss obscured an otherwise strong performance for the Gaiters, who led 40-38 at halftime and by as many as seven points in the third quarter. The 79 points was their highest total since scoring 88 at Laurentian on October 21, and their 44.4% shooting percentage was the highest of the regular season.

The Gaiters (5-15, 5-11 CIS, 0-7 Quebec) were led by Tim Hunter (Baie d'Urfé), who had his second straight 19-point game. Sean Monplaisir (Toronto, Ont.) scored 18, including going 10-for-13 from the free throw line, and had a season-high nine assists. Onnex Blackwood (Scarborough, Ont.) added 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds.

UQAM was led by Éric Côté-Kougnima's 21 points, while Gregory St-Amand added 19 and Lanctot-Fortier finished with 14 and Addai had 13.

The Gaiters return to action on Saturday afternoon, as they host the Laval Rouge et Or. Tipoff at the Mitchell Gym is set for the special start time of 4 p.m.
