LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Jacquie Laidler, a second-year prop / centre with the Bishop’s Gaiters women’s rugby team, made her second appearance for the Canadian Under-20 Women’s National Team yesterday. Laidler was a substitute as Team Canada downed the Caribbean Selects 43-0 in the opening game of the North American Caribbean Rugby Association championship in Nassau, Bahamas.

Laidler, who was the Bishop’s University female Freshman Athlete of the Year for 2009-10, came on in the 40th minute, with Canada already ahead 22-0. She made her first appearance for Team Canada in February, when she played against Team USA.

“We are again very proud to have Jacquie representing both Bishop's and Canada,” said Eryn Hessian, the Gaiters’ head coach. “We can't think of a better way to kick off our training camp  than to welcome her back from the NACRA Championship.”

The Canadian Under-20 Women’s National Team is next in action on Tuesday at 5 p.m. Eastern, as they face the Cayman Islands national team. The Canadians close out the tournament on Friday evening against the USA Under-20 squad.

Bishop’s Gaiters women’s rugby will open their training camp on Monday, August 30. Their only home preseason game is Monday, September 6 at 11 a.m. against the UPEI Panthers, with the regular season opener set for Saturday, September 11 at the Laval Rouge et Or.
