LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's Gaiters saw action on three fronts on Friday night, as both rugby squads visited Concordia, while Women's Soccer hosted Laval. Men's Rugby picked up a 14-14 tie at Concordia, while Women's Rugby fell 94-0 to the Stingers and Women's Soccer lost 2-0 at home to Laval.
MEN'S RUGBY: Concordia 14, Bishop's 14 The Bishop's Gaiters and Concordia Stingers fought to a 14-14 tie in Quebec university rugby union action at Concordia Stadium in Montreal. The tie, the Gaiters' first since a 25-25 stalemate against Concordia on Sept. 7, 2003, gives Bishop's (0-1-1) their first points of the season, putting them along into third place in the provincial circuit. Noah Harrison and Andrew Jamieson scored tries for the Gaiters, while William Murphy added a pair of conversions. Matthew Chin Barnes and Frederic Kacou replied for Concordia, with Adriano D'Angelo making both of his conversion attempts. The Gaiters return to action on Friday night as they host Sherbrooke (0-1) at Coulter Field. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m. WOMEN'S SOCCER: Laval 2, Bishop's 0 The Gaiters fared better after the nightmare start, holding the Rouge et Or to only five shots on goal in the game, and maintaining much more possession in the second half. Gaiters' Head Coach Phil Ribaux was particularly happy with the play of midfielders Patricia Murray (Sydney, N.S.) and Taylor Wade (Wolfville, N.S.), along with defender Alison Verville (Whitby, Ont.), who was named the Gaiters' player of the game. For Laval, Guy finished with one goal and an assist, while Marwa Chebbi had the other Laval assist. Marie-Ève Desnoyers made two saves while picking up the shutout for the visitors, while rookie goalkeeper Marie-Pierre Harvey (Quebec City) made three saves for the Gaiters in a losing cause. The Gaiters are off this Sunday, and return to action on Wednesday (Sept. 22) as they visit the UQAM Citadins. Kickoff at the Centre Sportif Bois-de-Boulonge in Laval, Que., is set for 9 p.m.
A 34-point outburst by Jackie Tittley led the No. 3-ranked Concordia Stingers to a 94-0 shut out over the Gaiters in Montreal. The three-time All-Canadian scored a pair of tries and went 12-for-14 on convert attempts. Latoya Blackwood scored three tries for Concordia (1-1), while Ciara Briscoe, Sarah Nesbitt, and Cara Stuckey added a pair each. Tries by Adara Borys, Jenna Giuliani and Judith Landry rounded out the scoring.
A pair of early goals gave the Laval Rouge et Or a 2-0 victory over the Bishop's Gaiters in Quebec university soccer action tonight at Coulter Field. The Rouge et Or scored twice in the game's first ten minutes, on Mélissande Guy's fourth-minute goal and Mona-Lee Pinkos' marker six minutes later.
