WEEKLY RELEASE 12: Gaiters cagers suffer losses last week, Bears hit the ice this week

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK:

The Bishop's Gaiters Athlete of the Week is Eloisa Katz of the women's basketball team. The native of Ra'anve led the Gaiters in both points (19) and rebounds (6) on Saturday night at Laval. The rookie forward also made seven of nine free throw attempts for the Gaiters.

 

HONOUR ROLL:

  • Onnex Blackwood, Men's Basketball – Second double-double of the year, with 14 points and 12 rebounds
  • Jessy Roy, Women's Basketball – Scored 12 points, and made a game-high six steals.
  • Mitchell Pierman, Men's Basketball – Scored 12 points in first career start

Gaiters dropped by Laval in first regular-season road contest

 

FRIDAY – Laval 86, Gaiters 59

A balanced attack led the Laval Rouge et Or over the Bishop's Gaiters, 86-59, on Friday night at the PEPS gymnasium in Quebec City. Six Rouge et Or players scored in double figures, most notably a double-double from Boris Hadzimuratovic. The Bosnian scored 13 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for the home side, who led from wire to wire.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters close out the fall with a pair of games. The Gaiters will visit the Concordia Stingers on Friday and return home on Saturday night to host the McGill Redmen. Tip off for both games is set for 8 p.m.

Late run sinks Gaiters at Laval

 

SATURDAY – Laval 76, Bishop's 65
The Laval Rouge et Or used a late 13-1 run to defeat the Bishop's Gaiters, 76-65, on Friday night at the PEPS gymnasium in Quebec City. Jannie Jacques made a pair of free throws to give Laval a 65-64 lead with 5:16 left, and the Rouge et Or held Bishop's without a field goal through the final five minutes of the game. The game was tight until Laval's closing run, featuring 11 ties and 21 lead changes.

UP NEXT: The Gaiters close out the fall with two games. They visit Concordia on Friday, and return home to face McGill on Saturday. Both games are scheduled to start at 6 p.m.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY (0-1, 0-0 MIWHC)
Polar Bears start regular season in Nova Scotia

 

The Bishop's Polar Bears women's hockey team plays their first games this weekend in the Maritime Intercollegiate Women's Hockey Challenge, as they head to Church Point, N.S., for a tournament hosted by the Université Sainte-Anne.

 

The Bears open the tournament on Saturday morning at 11:45 a.m. (all times Atlantic) against the host Sainte-Anne Dragons. Later in the day, they will face the Acadia Axewomen at 4:30 p.m, and Cape Breton University at 7 p.m. They close out the weekend on Sunday at 8 a.m. against the Holland College Hurricanes.
