WOMEN’S HOCKEY (2-2-1, 2-1-1 MIWHC)
Polar Bears start regular season in Nova Scotia

The Polar Bears opened league play, for the first since in nearly 20 years, with a tournament at Church Point, N.S., where they posted a 2-1-1 record.

GAME 1 – SATURDAY – Polar Bears 3, Université Sainte-Anne 3
The Polar Bears scored a pair of late goals to take a share of the spoils in their opening game, a 3-3 tie with the Sainte-Anne Dragons. Sainte-Anne took advantage of the Bears' lack of game experience, and took an early 2-0 lead. The Bears clawed one back before the end of the first, and the Dragons added a goal in the second period. Katie Ramm and Chantal Richard found the net for the Bears in the late stages. Katie Booth picked up the tie for the Polar Bears, while Sara Larivière was the player of the game.

GAME 2 - SATURDAY: Acadia 3, Gaiters 0
The Polar Bears were shutout in their second game of the day, as they were on the wrong end of some unfortunate bounces in a 3-0 loss to the Acadia Axewomen. Bianca Letarte allowed three goals to take the loss, while Taylor Wade, playing against her hometown school, was the Bears' player of the game.

GAME 3 – SATURDAY: Polar Bears 4, Cape Breton 1

The Bears picked up their first league win since 1992, as they came out on top in a physical contest with the Cape Breton Capers. Bishop's scored three goals in the first period, and cruised to the win. Katie Ramm scored twice for the Bears, with Elizabeth Courchesne and Taylor Wade adding singles. Bianca Letarte picked up the win in goal, with only a third-period Capers goal denying her a shutout.

GAME 4 – SUNDAY: Polar Bears 3, Holland 1

The Polar Bears dominated the game from start to finish thanks to the quickly forming chemistry of its first line and once again, outstanding goaltending by Katie Booth. The first period ended with a two-goal lead on goals by Taylor Wade and Chantal Richard. Holland got on the scoreboard mid way through the third period, but a quick goal shortly after by Katie Ramm sealed the win.

UP NEXT: The Polar Bears are off for the Christmas break. Their next league tournament is at Holland College in January 2012.
