ATHLETES OF THE WEEK:
The Bishop’s Gaiters Male Athlete of the Week is Onnex Blackwood of the Men’s Basketball team. The second-year guard from Scarborough, Ont. scored a team-high 23 points against Laval on Saturday night. Blackwood made nine free-throws along with shooting 50% (7-for-14) from the field.
The Bishop’s Gaiters Female Athlete of the Week is Bailey Trafford of the Women’s Basketball team. Trafford, a first-year centre from Centreville, N.B., was the leading scorer for the Gaiters on Saturday night, as she scored 12 points, along with grabbing six rebounds on the night.

- Sean Monplaisir, Men’s Basketball -- Scored 16 points Saturday vs. Laval.
- Taylor Wade, Women’s Indoor Soccer -- Took home game MVP honours vs. Concordia.
- Mike Andrews, Men’s Basketball -- Had a double-double Saturday scoring ten and grabbing 13 rebounds.
- Sara Larivière, Women’s Hockey -- Scored a hat trick on Monday night.
MEN’S BASKETBALL (2-27, 2-24 CIS, 1-11 QUBL) Gaiters fall at No. 8 Laval SATURDAY: Laval 100 Gaiters 79 Jérôme Turcotte-Routhier's 20 points led the No. 8-ranked Laval Rouge et Or to a 100-79 victory over the Gaiters on Saturday night at the PEPS gymnasium in Quebec City. The fourth-year forward scored 14 first-half points, as the hosts used a 19-0 run late in the first quarter to take command of the game. Sophomore guard Onnex Blackwood led the Gaiters with 23 points, as he went 7-for-13 from the field and made nine free throws. Sean Monplaisir added 16 points, on 6-for-10 shooting and seven rebounds. WOMEN’S BASKETBALL (7-15, 7-14 CIS, 2-10 QUBL) Gaiters suffer road loss at Laval SATURDAY: Laval 71, Gaiters 53 A double-double by Marie-Michele Genois led Laval to a 71-53 victory over the Gaiters on Saturday night in Quebec City. Genois scored 15 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, as Laval erased a strong start by the Gaiters. The Rouge et Or broke the game open with a 15-3 run over the last five minutes of the first half, and led 41-26 at halftime. For Bishop's, rookie centre Bailey Trafford led with 12 points and six rebounds. WOMEN’S INDOOR SOCCER (0-4-0) Gaiters Stung by Concordia SUNDAY: Concordia 3, Gaiters 0 Two goals by Emily Hubbard carried the Concordia Stingers over the Bishop’s Gaiters, 3-0, in Quebec University Indoor Soccer Women's League play Sunday afternoon in Montreal. Sarah Burge had the remaining goal for Concordia. Ines Miceli kept the Gaiters off of the scoreboard to complete the shutout. Rookie midfielder Taylor Wade was awarded MVP for the Gaiters as Molly Howes was given the MVP honours for Concordia. Molly Bucholtz made four saves in the Gaiters net.

WOMEN’S HOCKEY (9-5) Polar Bears post dynamic performance
MONDAY, JAN. 31: Bishop's 7, Néa Dynamie Estrie 1 A hat trick by Sara Larivière led the Bishop’s Polar Bears to a 7-1 victory over the Néa Dynamie Estrie last Monday night at the W.B. Scott Arena. The Bears were tied 1-1 after the first period, before Larivière scored twice to give Bishop's a 3-1 second-period lead. Kassandra Bernier scored twice for the Polar Bears, while Sacha Gouchie and Laurie Lacourse added singles. A strong Bishop’s defensive performance helped Bianca Letarte pick up the win in the Polar Bear net. UP NEXT: The Polar Bears hit the road for a three-game, two-day trip to the Ottawa area this weekend. They will play the Rideau-St. Lawrence Intermediates on Friday night at 8 p.m. in Kemptville, Ontario. On Saturday, the Bears head into Ottawa and play the Nepean Wild Cats at 10 a.m., and Gloucester at 2 p.m. |
