LENNOXVILLE, Que. – Four goals by Alexandra Morin-Boucher led the McGill Martlets to a 9-0 shutout of the Bishop's Gaiters in CIS soccer action on Thursday night in Montreal. Morin-Boucher scored the first two goals and added another pair in the late stages.
McGill took a 3-0 halftime lead on Morin-Boucher's first pair of goals (11', 42') and a 44th-minute counter by Alexandra Armstrong. The Martlets extended their lead through a pair of goals by Meghan Bourque (63', 64'), singles by Alexandra Hoyte (67') and Stephanie Avery (73') and Morin-Boucher's final two goals (72', 79').A combination of injuries and academic commitments rendered the Gaiters' top three goalkeepers unavailable for selection, forcing Head Coach Phil Ribaux to hand the gloves to rookie defender Juliana Miele (Blainville, Que.). She made six saves in her first CIS start.
For McGill, Shimone Slomowitz made one save to pick up the shutout.
The Gaiters (0-7-2) are next in action on Sunday afternoon, as they visit the UQTR Patriotes (3-2-3) in Trois-Rivières, with kickoff set for 1 p.m. McGill is also in action on Sunday, as they visit Sherbrooke, with kickoff set for 3 p.m.
