ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jessy Roy is the Bishop's University Athlete of the Week for the week ending January 29, 2012, earning the nod for the second straight week. The fifth-year point guard from Val d'Or, Que., was dominant in the Gaiters’ 59-55 win over then-league-leading Concordia on Friday night. The former Cégep de Sherbrooke Volontaire scored 12 points, and had team highs with eight rebounds, seven assists and four steals. Roy continues to lead the conference in several categories, including assists (5.0 per game), steals (3.0 per game), minutes played (34.2 per game) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5). She is currently seventh in the CIS in assists, and 5th in the country in minutes played per game.

ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Jessy Roy is the Bishop's Gaiters Athlete of the Week. The fifth-year point guard from Val d'Or, Que. led the Gaiters to a pair of wins over the weekend, averaging 17 points and six assists. On Friday night, her 18 points led all scorers as the Gaiters defeated UQAM 73-57. She also made a game-high five assists and a pair of steals. On Saturday, the former Volontaire scored 16 points, grabbed a team-high six rebounds, and made seven assists as the Gaiters dumped Laval 72-56, evening their record at 4-4 on the year. Roy now leads the province, and is eighth in the CIS, with 4.7 assists per game.

The Bishop's Gaiters Athlete of the Week is Gabrielle Chamberland of the women's basketball team. The Sherbrooke led the Gaiters with 36 points over last weekend's two games. On Friday, she led the Gaiters with 16 points, including a trio of three pointers. On Saturday, she had her fourth 20-point game of the year as she led the Gaiters to a 56-45 win over McGill.

More...ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: The Bishop's Gaiters Athlete of the Week is Eloisa Katz of the women's basketball team. The native of Ra'anve led the Gaiters in both points (19) and rebounds (6) on Saturday night at Laval. The rookie forward also made seven of nine free throw attempts for the Gaiters.

More...LENNOXVILLE, Que. – The Bishop's University Women's Hockey team announced today that they have been invited to join the Maritime Intercollegiate Women's Hockey Challenge for the upcoming season. The MIWHC includes five other teams, like the Polar Bears all intercollegiate club-level teams: the University of New Brunswick (Fredericton), Holland College of P.E.I., along with Acadia University, Cape Breton University and Université Ste-Anne, all based in Nova Scotia.
More...LENNOXVILLE, Que. - Jesse Andrews (Pickering, Ont.), Mike Dube (Brockville, Ont.) and Jessy Roy (Val d'Or, Que.) were named the Bishop's University Athletes of the Year at the annual awards gala held tonight in Sherbrooke. Also winning major awards were Taylor Wade (Wolfville, N.S.) and Andrew Jamieson (Beaconsfield, Que.), who were named Freshmen of the Year, while Katie Allen (Vankleek Hill, Ont.) and Zak Buis (North Delta, B.C.) were named the winners of the Academic Student-Athlete of the Year Award. Karl Hunting, the former coach of the Polar Bears women's hockey team, was awarded the prestigious Ray Almond Award for his contributions to Bishop's Athletics. At the gala, over 40 awards were presented across all nine Bishop's athletic programs.
