1954, 1955 and 1956 FOOTBALL
Three-time OSLAA "B" Champions

Bishop's Gaiters 1954 Football Team

Under the leadership of new head coach Gordon "Beef" Ross, the 1954 team brought Bishop's its first championship since 1933. The Gaiters went 5-0 overall, and a perfect 4-0 in winning the Ottawa-St. Lawrence Athletic Association "B" division championship, scoring 89 points while only conceding six. The team did not allow a touchdown all season, a feat that is unlikely to ever be matched, as they recorded victories over Macdonald College, the Collège Militaire Royal of St-Jean, and RMC II, as well as an exhibition victory over the Sherbrooke Athletics. Bob Burt and Wally Lynch led the team in scoring with 15 points each.

The members of that team were: Gordon "Beef" Ross (Coach), Nick Powell (Captain), Don Acres, Ray Ayoup, Richard Berryman, Peter Blaikie, Bob Burt, John Douglas, Glyn Edwards, Murray Greenwood, Laurie Hart, Dexter Jolley, Warren Lynch, John Matthews, Bob McHarg, Brad Mitchell, Richard (Sam) Poaps, John Pratt, John Rider, Andy Ross, Edgar Smith, Don Stringer, Jim Keith (Manager) and Ray Ball (Assistant Manager).

Bishop's Gaiters 1955 Football Team

The Gaiters continued to dominate the OSLAA "B" Division in 1955, as they again went undefeated in league play. The Gaiters were 6-0 overall, and 5-0 in league play, as they scored 71 points while only conceding 30, recording a number of come-from-behind victories as they ran their winning streak to 11 games.

The members of that team were: Gordon "Beef" Ross (Coach), Nick Powell (Captain), Bob Burt, Cecil (Bill) Carsley), Andy Davis, John de la Vergne, John Douglas, Glyn Edwards, Jim Fullerton, Murray Greenwood, Laurie Hart, Bob Haslett, Toby Hungerbuhler, Warren Lynch, John Lummis, Hugh MacDonald, John Matthews, Dave Moore, Richard (Sam) Poaps, John Pratt, John Rider, Toby Rochester, Don Stringer, Ray Ball (Manager) and Dave Lethbridge (Assistant Manager).

Bishop's Gaiters 1956 Football Team

The Gaiters won their third consecutive league title in 1956, posting a 4-1 record in league play, before defeating the Macdonald College Aggies in a playoff game. The Gaiters' 12-game winning streak ended early in a year with a tie against McGill II (who played in the OSLAA "A" Division). They rolled to four straight league wins before being upset by the Aggies on the last day of the regular season, ending a 17-game undefeated streak. However, the Gaiters avenged the defeat a week later with a 14-9 win over Macdonald in a playoff game to defend their league crown.

The members of that team were: Gordon "Beef" Ross (Coach), Bob Burt (Captain), Dick Berryman, Ralph Burt, Cecil (Bill) Carsley, Andy Davis, John de la Vergne, John Douglas, Glyn Edwards, Dick Fletcher, Jim Fullerton, Laurie Hart, Bob Home, Toby Hungerbuhler, Dave Lethbridge, Hugh MacDonald, John Matthews, Brad Mitchell, Jim Murdoch, Richard (Sam) Poaps, John Pratt, John Rider, David Seaborn, Alexander (Sandy) Sinclair, Bob Sinclair, Don Stringer, Ian Warnock.
